Work has been going well, I am enjoying assisting in classes and learning more everyday about classroom management, assignments, critiques, and how to give direction and inspire students. I wrote a thesis proposal and turned that in for peer review which we will be getting back later today, I think that even though it is a crazy amount of work and super stressful it will be good for me. Even if it's just figuring out how to get my ideas out of my head and into words, sentences, and paragraphs that make sense to other people. Academic people, specifically.
My studio practice has been lagging, I finished the embroideries that I talked about last post, but find that they are too static. I had a visit with Vaughn today and we talked about some really interesting ideas on how to activate the presence of the objects and draw in the viewer. I think it has a lot to do with an element of surprise. Talking about that project was really good. I've been sort of surprised by the interest in that installation over other works.
The altered photo project though, did not receive as much interest. Although what was talked about was good. I'm not sure where to go from here with it. I think that I'll finish it the way that I'd planned but perhaps there needs to be something else. Or maybe a different project altogether along the same lines. I think that part of what was discussed was the possibility that this is just something I need to do, just for me. I don't know how I feel about that, but I'm going to go with it for now and just do it.
Some words that Vaughn used that are interesting to me and I want to explore further:

Anyway, more studio visits this week and next, and the next leading up to review. I need to get working.
